Dear Parents,

Happy May to you! We are still recovering from the great day we had at the Science Museum of Virginia on Wednesday. We had a blast exploring the exhibits, watching the IMAX film, and learning more about space. It was a fun-filled day enjoyed by all!

I cannot believe that we are in our final 9 weeks of school. The children are definitely showing the signs of becoming second graders!

With the weather quickly heating up, it is very important that the children are protected from the rays of the sun. It may be a good idea to put sunscreen on your child in the morning so that they will be ready for outdoor play.

In science, we will start our unit on plants. We will be discussing the parts of a plant, what they need to grow, and how they grow. We will also be planting some seeds so that we can see this process first hand. It is definitely going to be a fun unit!

In social studies, we will be discussing Memorial Day and Mother’s Day. There will be some fun projects completed to celebrate both of these holidays! We will also begin a study about our place in our world. We will learn about the continents, the state of Virginia, and various map skills.

We said a very sad farewell to Peggy Parish and said hello to Eric Carle as our new author of the month.

Friendly Reminders:

  • There is a League Meeting on Tuesday, May 14th at 6:00 p.m.
  • School will be closed on Friday, May 24th and Monday, May 27th for Memorial Day.
  • Family Field Day is on Wednesday, June 5th. Our class party will be that afternoon. Jill Lewis and Lindsey Haile will be hosting it.
  • Don’t forget about the Annual Fund! We want our class to reach 100%!!
