STANDARD DRESS CODE POLICY (revised Spring 2009 by Standard Dress Committee) The standard dress policy at Aylett Country Day School (ACDS) represents the belief that appropriate standard dress is required by the school and that students’ behavior is, at least in part, affected by the way they dress. Parents can help by supporting the concept that school is a student’s work place and that the student should come dressed to work. Parents should check their child’s attire each morning to be sure that the child is in compliance with the standard dress policy at ACDS. Students should come to school each day ready to work and dressed neatly and in clean clothing. All students in grades K through 8th are required to wear items of clothing included in ACDS standard dress policy, purchased from vendor- Land’s End or any other vendor that sells items that are compatible in kind and quality. For students in classes EC3 through PK 5, standard dress will be optional. If the student comes to school in an outfit that does not conform with the standard dress code, the parent will receive a call from the teacher requesting: (1.) the parent to bring a standard dress outfit to school for the student or (2.) the parent to take the student home to change into the appropriate standard dress. If the situation occurs a second time, then the student will be sent to the Head of School and the Head of School will call the parents regarding disciplinary action. ACDS standard dress policy includes the following choices: Boys: Pants/shorts - plain or pleated (khaki, navy) - no Cargo pants Shirt – oxford button-down (blue, white) tucked in, Polos - plain, long or short sleeves (red, white, navy) – tuck-in optional Sweater/ Sweater vest – crew or V-neck, long - sleeved (red, white and navy) Turtleneck (red, white, navy) Belts (black or brown) Girls: Jumper – (clear blue plaid, khaki, navy) Skort – side pleat or 2- button (clear blue plaid, khaki, navy) – no cargo Skirt – just above the knee (clear blue plaid, khaki, navy) – no cargo Pants/shorts –pleated, plain front or stretch flair (khaki, navy) – no cargo Shorts- fingertip length (September-October and after Spring Break) Shirts – oxford button-down (blue, white) – tuck-in requiredpolo- regular or feminine fit- plain (red, white, navy) – tuck-in optional Blouses – peter pan collar, long or short sleeved (white)Turtlenecks (red, white, navy) Sweaters/sweater vests - cardigan and/or shell- fine gauge, cable hoodie, crew or v-neck, long or short sleeved (red, white, navy) Hosiery is optional, but if chosen to wear: Tights (white) Leggings (white, navy) Knee socks (white cable) Socks (solid or white) Belts (black, brown or clear blue plaid) Boys and Girls’ Footwear: Lower school – closed toe and heel sneakers* Middle school – closed toe and/or closed heel sneakers, flip flops (September-October and after Spring Break) * * Ugg boots, etc. worn only on snowy and rainy days Boys and Girls’ Outerwear: (worn inside, when appropriate) ACDS sweatshirt, fleece jacket- hooded or not, or vest (navy, grey, red, white) In PE classes:Students in grades 4 through 8 must dress in regulation P.E. uniforms for gym class or may wear navy sweat suits during cold months.
